Bacon in a box? Local women hope buyers go hog wild for it

Flowers. Fruit baskets. Chocolates.
It’s all been done.

But two Boynton Beach women have a new spin on online gifting: Bacon Boxes.

Yep, it’s bacon in a box. Shaped like a bacon rosebud, it comes in different flavors.

Picture
Kimberly Hruda, 28, and Logan Israel, 21, run the business and create the bacon orders themselves with the help of a chef they brought on board.

The company officially launched this month. “This is new. I doubt you’ve ever gotten a box of bacon before and I doubt you’d even know what to do with it,” Israel said.

The women, who both hold jobs outside of this, say they aim to be “the best in bacon.”

Each bacon gift comes from the pork belly of certified naturally grown, free-range Berkshire hogs from farms across the country, with the closest being in Georgia. Each bacon bud is made of two strips of bacon.
Bacon boxes come in different flavors, such as S’mores, chocolate, pumpkin spice and bourbon. The women also offer a variety of collections including The Original Collection, Bud in the Oven, Celebration and Anniversary. Boxes range in price starting from $25 to $200.

The bacon is delivered by FedEx about two to three days from purchase and arrives in a gift box that is sealed and wrapped in a bow. It is packaged with ice packs to keep the bacon at the appropriate temperature, Hruda said. Expedited shipping is available for an additional cost. The bacon can be eaten right out of the box, or heated.

Hruda and Israel invested their own money into the company (they declined to say how much), and already get a couple sales a day. They are working to get their own storefront. As of now, the women are selling boxes through their website baconboxes.com.

The women say their business offers a new option. “Sometimes you don’t always know what to get a man,” Israel said. And that’s how this all started.

Earlier this year, Israel made bacon roses for her fiance, who shared them with people at his office. Employees became interested and ended up ordering boxes. That led Israel to develop a business plan, and then Hruda came on board.

“ Everyone loved it,” Israel said. “Before that I never imagined having a bacon company.”
Hruda and Israel were already close friends, and the two often crafted together in the kitchen.
Now their crafting is all about hogs.

“Our weekends and nights are full of bacon,” Hruda said.

ROMANTICS this Valentine's Day best wake up and smell the bacon because you can now buy it in a bouquet.

SAY IT WITH BACON: Why buy flowers when you can buy bacon?
The bacon roses come from rasher connoisseurs Logan Rae and Kimmie Hruda. Logan made the treat for a co-worker as a gift last year and discovered a niche in the market. "I made bacon roses as a birthday gift and delivered it to a busy office last January," Logan said. "By February, employees and my co-workers were requesting them for Valentine's Day." When the requests got too much, Logan, 21, was joined by pal Kimmie, 28. The pair, from Florida, created Bacon Boxes.

The boxes include the luxury bacon treats and have proved extremely popular for the romantic holiday.
"We've received a lot of excitement in response to our products – it's a totally new product unavailable anywhere else, we couldn't be more proud," added Logan.
"We've been referred to as the Louis Vuitton of bacon and generally as the 'best in bacon' so often that it became our punchline."
The duo added that they believe in sustainable practices that are in "balance with the Earth and its natural systems".
The aim of the products is to help celebrate big events in a memorable way.
They spend more than 100 hours a week creating the product to make it the "most impressive bacon you'll ever have".
The meaty idea has proved a hit on social media.
One Twitter user wrote: " Bacon valentine roses – great idea for breakfast in bed."
Another summed up her thoughts with: "True love is a bacon bouquet".
Why say it with flowers when you can say it with bacon?

BOYNTON BEACH (CBS12) — Giving a bouquet of roses is so cliché these days. But giving the gift of bacon, rose-shaped chocolate-covered bacon- is where it's at.

Meet the two female entrepreneurs behind BaconBoxes.com, 21-year-old Logan Rae and 28-year-old Kimmie Hruda.
Picture
These bacon business babes' treats are so sizzling hot, they were sold out for Valentine's Day.

The ladies tell CBS12/CW34 News Anchor Michele Wright that they continue to sell out!

Picture
The duo launched Bacon Boxes just last year and since, business is booming.

The company is planning on expanding from current location to make way for a much larger kitchen and storage space for their growing product line.

IT'S MORE THAN JUST BACON

Kim and Logan make sure they use the highest quality bacon possible.

Their secret? Perfect ingredients.

BaconBoxes uses Berkshire free-range, certified naturally grown hogs that are 'au naturale.'

So that means no hormones, no steroids and no antibiotics.

Kimmie and Logan cut up the pork belly product in the kitchen and actually give it a daily 'massage' to help break it down into the perfect bacon product.

It's then cured in house, and smoked. The bacon is then hand carved into thick slices and hand rolled into mouth watering bacon-rose buds.

Bacon Boxes are made to order, assembled and sealed into an FDA approved food grade package.

It contains a rosebud-shaped Berkshire bacon piece that comes wrapped in a satin bow with the option to include a personalized card.

The gift boxes are then put into a food grade box with an ice pack and shipped all over the world.

There is a wide variety of flavors to chose from: S'mores, dark or milk chocolate, barrel aged bourbon and for a limited time, pumpkin-spiced.

There are also special occasion boxes for Anniversaries, Weddings, and Birthdays.
Boxes range in price starting from $25 to $200.
